Next Generation Liverpool was founded in 2002 by Paul Rimmer and Jay Tan, both spent the majority of 2001 living and training at the Next Generation fighting Academy in Irvine CA training with Chris Brennan, Jeremy Williams, Alex Serdyukov, Rick Estrada, Bao Quach, Gerald Strebendt, Adam Lynn, Buck Greer and many other top athletes. During this time both homed their skills in grappling. Paul returned to the U.S.A and spent a lot of 2003 training at the Next Generation Fighting Academy and Jason spent 2004 training at Gracie Barra in Rio de Janeiro, both competed a lot in submission grappling and bjj during that time.

In 2007 Kru Peter Davies joined Next Gen to help develop the Muay Thai program. Peter has over 10 years full time teaching experience under the world famous Master Sken, Peter is also a veteran of more than 50 Muay Thai fights and held both North West and British Light Middle weight titles. He has also trained many successful British Champions.
